Geelong Breech Training

We are excited to offer a vaginal breech training with David Hayes! The training combines virtual lectures with a full day of hands-on simulation training. The breech training package includes:

A full day with Dr. David Hayes, including hands-on simulation training with a Sophie and Her Mum simulator, breech birth video analysis, and clinical scenarios.
Breech Pro 2.0: a self-paced vaginal breech training workshop with CPDs/CMEs, accessible for 1 year. Access to Breech Pro 2.0 is included with workshop enrollment. Breech Pro 2.0 must be completed prior to the hands-on training.
One year of twice-monthly optional live sessions (recordings also provided)

Breech Pro alum pricing:
$335: full day workshop (for those with current Breech Pro 2.0 enrollment)
$410: full day workshop + Breech Pro 2.0 upgrade (1 year)

Late registrations will be charged an additional $70 for the breech workshop.

Instructors

David Hayes, MD

Doctor Hayes’ primary interests have been obstetrics and gynecology in resource poor settings, out of hospital birth, and critical care obstetrics. A long time breech birth provider, he is currently the Medical Director of Breech Without Borders, an international non-profit dedicated to the resurrection and promotion of vaginal breech birth worldwide.

He has worked for Médecins Sans Frontières in many roles including Comprehensive Emergency Obstetric and Newborn Care in multiple projects, a Fistula Repair program, Lassa Fever control program, General Surgery, and Emergency Department coverage. Dr Hayes also operated an out-of-hospital, full-spectrum obstetric practice for twenty years.

Rixa Freeze, PhD virtual instructor

Rixa Freeze has a PhD from the University of Iowa and is a researcher, professor, and mother of 4 children. Her current research specialization is vaginal breech birth. She is the founder of Breech Without Borders, a nonprofit dedicated to breech training, education, and advocacy. She blogs at Stand and Deliver.

Kristine Lauria, CPM virtual instructor

Kristine Lauria, midwife, works for Médecins Sans Frontières and became BWB’s Global Midwifery Director in 2022. She has attended over 5000 births in more than 25 countries around the world, including 520 vaginal breech births, 419 sets of vaginal twins, and 9 sets of vaginal triplets. She is the creator and instructor of BWB’s Master Class on breech & twins.

FAQs

What is your cancellation policy?
If you are called away to a birth or family emergency on the day of the training and cannot reschedule your training day, you will receive 2 month's virtual access to the activity station materials (preferred) or $150 refund.
Otherwise tickets are nonrefundable.

Do I need to be enrolled in Breech Pro 2.0 to attend the workshop?
Yes. All registrants to our in-person trainings are required to have a current Breech Pro 2.0 enrollment. Your training registration includes enrollment in or upgrade to Breech Pro 2.0.

What if I already completed Breech Pro?
In an effort to ensure all students have received the most accurate and updated information, all registrants with a previous Breech Pro account are required to upgrade to and complete Breech Pro 2.0.

Do I have to complete Breech Pro 2.0 prior to the workshop?
Yes, you must have completed 100% of Breech Pro 2.0 to be admitted on your hands-on training day. You will be asked to show your certificate of completion (downloadable upon finishing the course). If you have not completed the course, you will not be allowed to attend the hands-on training and you will not receive a refund on any portion of the training.

How long will I have access to Breech Pro 2.0?
You will have 1 year's access from the date of registering, if you are enrolling for the first time or upgrading to Breech Pro 2.0. Please allow 24-48 hours for online course enrollments to be processed following registration.

Is there a deadline to register?
We accept late registrations. However, there will be an additional charge if registering after the cut-off date one month prior to the event.

Do you offer CPDs/CMEs?
The workshop is currently approved for 23.5 CPD hours with ACM (14.5 CE for Breech Pro 2.0, 9 CEs for hands-on). Participants can self-claim RANZCOG CME credits for all activities.

Additional breech & twins training in Melbourne and other locations

Dr. Hayes will be presenting his Breech & Twins Intensive (BTI) course in Melbourne on February (BTI lecture day) and February 27 (BTI advanced simulations). Note that attendance to the BTI lecture day is required to participate in the BTI advanced simulation training.

BTI Course Day 1 (Lectures):
This training option is an 8-hour day of lectures with Dr. Hayes. Topics will include evidence on fetal monitoring, breech tips and tricks, types of twinning, and embryology. This option requires completion of Breech Pro 2.0 before the training day.

BTI Course Day 2 (Simulations):
These 4-hour simulation sessions will be limited to 6 participants. Participants will practice upright and supine breech birth and twin skills using two Sophie and Her Mum simulators. This option has the prerequisite of the BTI lecture day.

How to register for the BTI course:
On the registration page, indicate that you are currently enrolled in a vaginal breech training and wish to enroll in the BTI option.

Other BTI locations include Melbourne (February 26-27), Brisbane (March 8-9), Townsville (March 13-14), and Adelaide (March 23-24).

Breech Pro Completion Information:

All attendees will be required to present their certificate of completion of the online course, Breech Pro 2.0, in order to attend the hand-on training. Those who cannot provide either a printed or digital copy of their certificate will not be able to enter the training. No refunds will be provided if unable to attend unless previous communication and approval has occurred.
